Montgomery says no to sewer payment plan

The Montgomery Village Board has turned down a request from one resident to pay the water/sewer bill in installments rather than make one lump payment.

“I know we gave relief during Covid, but I’m not sure we should start a precedent,” said Mayor Steve Brescia, who added that the department head does have the latitude to make discretionary decisions.

Village Attorney William Frank told the board that it, too, had discretion to waive the normal rules if there are extenuating circumstance like a water leak or something else unanticipated.

Brescia noted that any unpaid water/sewer bills will be added to the homeowner’s tax levy, along with a ten percent penalty.
