Mural festival planned for early summer

Monticello native, Josh Deitchman has returned to the Hudson Valley with a vision to create murals and start The Hudson Valley Hype Mural Festival in Newburgh. The self taught muralist has been living and painting in Denver, CO since 2015 for his business Lowkey Creative. Working in conjunction with Megan Prives, Marketing & Creative at Seraphim Equities who is supplying the canvas in the form of buildings as well as financial support for the artist and supplies. Their aim with the mural at 181 Broadway as well as the additional walls that will be painted during the mural festival is to “give the walls of Newburgh a voice.”

Deitchman is in Newburgh now creating an incredible mural on the side of a building at 181 Broadway. The mural celebrates diversity, as well as the area’s incredible natural resources, featuring the face of a beautiful woman surrounded by the images of the four seasons of the Hudson Valley. The mural pays homage to the city’s rich history with a rustic aesthetic.

The festival is tentatively scheduled for the end of June finishing on the Fourth of July. The festival is reaching out hoping to include artists of Newburgh and the Hudson Valley to create murals for many buildings in Newburgh. The project has been proposed to and approved by the Newburgh ARC. The festival hopes to have work that educates, beautifies, and highlights the historic features of the city. The new mural at the corner of Clark Street and Broadway is scheduled to be complete by the end of this week.

Josh and Megan, as well as community-first Seraphim Equities which is helping the duo’s dreams become a reality, are hopeful for the future of the festival, with plans for it to take place annually, providing the opportunity for more local artists to partake in the event each year. Stay tuned for a call for artists which will soon be released and open to the public.
