The Newburgh Enlarged City School District (NECSD) in collaboration with the Newburgh Armory Unity Center (NAUC) has established the Newburgh Armory Unity Center Virtual Academy to help support working families of NECSD scholars. The partnership has been established to address the inequities working families are facing during this difficult time in our history.
“Education is access to the American Dream. This partnership ensures students don’t lose access. We know everyone is struggling to make adjustments during this public health crisis. This collaboration is another example of how schools and community organizations can join together to serve our scholars and their families.” Dr. Roberto Padilla, Superintendent of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District
“The Newburgh Armory Unity Center is here to serve the community. Supporting education and local schools is an essential part of our mission. We can be counted on to do our part to help close the achievement gap.” Said Bill Kaplan, Newburgh Armory Unity Center Founder and Chairman of the Board
Beginning in September, scholars of families who have to work every day will be able to complete their virtual learning from the Newburgh Armory Unity Center. As the district begins to transition to a hybrid model, scholars will be able to attend the armory on days that they are assigned to virtual learning.
Meals and Student Support Services will be provided by the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. Guidelines established by the Department of Health (DOH) will be followed, which includes all people wearing a mask, observation of social distancing, health survey monitoring, and regular cleaning.

As we begin a new school year, all scholars will receive a Chromebook device for virtual learning. Previously, scholars in grades 3-12 received devices. For the 2020-2021 school year, all scholars in Pre-K-12 will receive a Chromebook to enhance equity and promote opportunities for all scholars to learn virtually.
Information about registration and additional details will be forthcoming.
