Montgomery Little League’s 8-10-year-old softball team won its second straight District 19 title Thursday with a 7-4 victory over Monroe-Woodbury. Audrey Conklin fanned 11 in the game. Conklin started the postseason with a pair of perfect games after moving to the mound from second base. “I really didn’t take lessons,” said Conklin, of pitching, “I just pitched in my backyard.” Conklin shutout Warwick and Cornwall before the team beat Pine Bush 18-3 June 29 to win the bracket title. Montgomery stopped Chester 13-1 July 2 before facing Monroe-Woodbury Thursday. Monroe-Woodbury took a 2-0 lead against Conklin before she and the team found a way to quell their opponents and win a consecutive district title. “All my reserves from last year are starters this year,” said Matt O’Neill, Montgomery’s coach, “and they are stepping up.” Montgomery’s intermediate baseball team won the Section 3 title July 1. This week Montgomery will play in the state tournament in Penfield. In 8-10-year-old baseball, Pine Bush reached the district finals against Washingtonville Thursday and won the first game 15-5. Washingtonville then eliminated Pine Bush 18-8 Friday to win the district title. In 10-12-year baseball, Pine Bush has fought its way through the loser’s bracket to meet Minisink/Otisville in a district final game this week. And in junior baseball, Pine Bush went 3-0 to remain in the hunt for a berth in district finals, which start this week.
