A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Saturday for Java Blue Coffee & Food Market in the Village of Montgomery.

The café, located at 8 Union Street, features an extensive menu, which includes lattes, smoothies, cappuccinos, coffee slushies as well as pastries, salads, sandwiches and soups. Co-founder and co-owner Christina Porcu announced that the menu will change with the seasons.

“It’s getting really cold, we’re all craving squashes and pumpkins and spices and apples and all that stuff,” she said. “So we’ll definitely start incorporating all that into the menu.”

Java Blue Coffee Distributors began in 2017 as a wholesale coffee distribution company. Co-founders and co-owners Christina and Davide Porcu bought their retail store on Union Street from Randi Greene, who no longer needed the space for Eat This Bakery & Gifts The Java Blue Coffee & Food Market retail store opened in Montgomery on Sept. 9.

“When COVID-19 hit, we wanted to open up another business just to have another way to get our coffee out,” Christina Porcu said.

Local community leaders dropped by the ribbon cutting ceremony. Montgomery Town Supervisor Brian Maher, Orange County Legislator Mike Anagnostakis and Orange County Chamber of Commerce President Lynn Allen Cione presented the Porcus with certificates of recognition.

“This is a model for the rest of the businesses around Orange County,” Allen Cione said. “The ability to work together and the ability to make a whole new model and to really bring such a great vibe down here. Kudos to both of you.”

The Porcus hope to be a fixture in the Village of Montgomery for years to come.

“We hope to just become a great neighborhood café that people know about all over but really serve the community around us and make sure we’re always offering fresh, local selections every day,” Christina Porcu said.

Customers can visit Java Blue Coffee & Food Market from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m Monday through Saturday.
