Newburgh Free Academy’s boys’ lacrosse led Wallkill 2-1, Monday, April 8, after Alex Lewis gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with 10:43 left in the first quarter.

The Goldbacks had that lead to start the second quarter, but Lewis would come back and score four goals in the second quarter as the Panthers led at 7-4 at the half.

Lewis added another goal in the second half before the Panthers prevailed at home with a 14-7 victory.

“We moved the ball quick, we played hard,” said Lewis, who led the Panthers with six goals. “We were aggressive, and overall, we did very well.”
Ty Crowley and Chad Castle each had three goals, and Austin Palen and Alec MacDonald each had a goal for the Panthers.

Terry Anderson led Newburgh with three goals, and Dylan Lasota added a pair for the Goldbacks. Jovan Rogers and Pat Searing each scored a goal for the Goldbacks.

“The kids are coming a long way. They are getting better every game,” said Jimmy Horton, Newburgh’s coach.

Horton said his team is getting better at setting up in transitions to counter its opponents, even though they could do little to slow Wallkill’s attack at times.
“For the most part we played very well today. We just made some mistakes they capitalized on,” said Horton. “When teams do that, they will put the ball in the net.”
