Plattekill discusses cyber security

Posted

At the January 15 regular meeting of the Plattekill Town Board, the board was pleased to find out that the premium for the town’s yearly liability insurance for 2020 would be less than was budgeted.

As an added bonus, the town of Plattekill’s 2020 insurance plan would include cyber liability. In the case of a cyber attack, ransom demand, or other incidents which threaten the sensitive information in the towns computer system, the cyber liability insurance would cover a combined limit of $250,000. This sparked a discussion regarding the potential to need a higher limit cyber security insurance in the future. The option to upgrade the cyber liability insurance is available.

Plattekill Town Supervisor Joseph Croce admitted that he does not know a lot about cyber security, but would make an effort to educate himself on the topic. The board decided to accept the 2020 liability insurance with the $250,000 cyber liability rider, but would gather quotes on higher cyber coverage in preparation for the 2021 budget.

Cleaning Service Search
At a recent Plattekill Town Board meeting, Croce received a letter, signed by Town Hall employees, expressing their displeasure over the quality of work delivered by the cleaning company currently cleaning the town buildings. The employees asked the town board to investigate different cleaning companies as a replacement.

Plattekill Highway Superintendent Robert Wager, after beginning the initial search, had questions for the town board regarding their ideas in terms of hours, insurance, workman’s compensation and services provided. guidance before he began interviewing perspective companies.
After a long discussion, the Plattekill Town Board agreed that any new cleaning company would be required to have their own liability and workmen’s compensation insurance, and would need to schedule the cleaning of any town building during regular business hours. If possible, the board would like to explore the possibility of the cleaning service coming to the Town Hall building two days a week to help maintain the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Supervisor Croce will consult the lawyer for the Town of Plattekill to discuss what steps need to be taken to hire a new cleaning company.
