Shawangunk Democrats welcome candidates

Adriana Magana, candidate for Ulster County Legislature District 14, was among the four local candidates running for local office who attended this month’s Town of Shawangunk Democrats meeting at the Walker Valley School House on September 14.

Magana, her ten-year-old daughter, Juniper, and March Gallagher, candidate for Ulster County Comptroller, stopped by the meeting to say hello after making several other stops in Walker Valley. A resident of Ellenville, Magana is the founder and co-director of the Center for Bioregional Living.

A 51 year-old Permaculture Designer and an educator in organic agriculture and renewable energy solutions, she told the group that she decided to run for office when she saw there was a need, as she puts it, “to bridge the ridge.” Magana spoke about the sides of the district and their distinctly different needs. She repeated the importance of getting involved in volunteering and helping the community. She discussed her plans for both the economy and the environment. She also emphasized that words matter, what we say matters, and that “tolerating hate speech and racism is not ok.”

Also a candidate for Ulster County Legislature, Andrew Domenech spoke to the group about his plans for the future. Domenech, an active member of the Shawangunk Democrats, is running for the legislative position in district 13 on the Democrat and Working Parties lines after thirty years in public service. Another active member of the group, Charles Beach, is running for town council. All four candidates brought messages of cooperation and coordination for Ulster.
