The Village of Montgomery will host the Taste of Montgomery event on Sunday. This occasion will feature a sampling of culinary delights, beer, cider and wine tastings, live music, a farmer’s market in addition to a flower and plant sale.

This event encourages restaurants to bring a signature dish. Upon arrival, guests will receive a plate with a slot to hold a glass, allowing them to use their other hand to sample food with a fork. Taste of Montgomery features food from 16 restaurants. Ward’s Bridge Inn will showcase their beef bolognese and 88 Charles Street Cafe plans to serve eggplant rollatini. Copperfield’s Food & Spirits will serve gnocchi and chicken wings while The Borland Inn & Brunch House plans to provide chicken and waffle sandwiches. Attendees with a sweet tooth will get to taste samples of ice cream and cookies from Duffy’s. Residents are eager for this event.

“Montgomery is known for its eating establishments,” said Brian Fitzpatrick, Village of Montgomery historian. “It’s a beautiful place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Both museums will be open to those in attendance.”

The event was originally scheduled for July, but postponed when the weather forecast called for temperatures near 100 degrees. Sunday’s forecast calls for party sunny skies with a high of 63.

Angry Orchard will have some assorted hard ciders. Mill House Brewing Company plans to provide some India Pale Ales for sampling. In addition, City Winery Hudson Valley, which is scheduled to open next month, will bring a selection of white and red wines to the Taste of Montgomery.

A local band called Jerry the Bulldog will perform a blend of country and rock ‘n’ roll at the event. Froehlich Farms will sell fruits and vegetables. Flowers and plants will be sold by Twin Ponds Greenhouse & Landscaping.

Much of the money raised by Taste of Montgomery will be given to the Montgomery Village Museum. In addition, $500 will be donated to the Thomas J. Gabrynowicz Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is awarded to a Valley Central High School graduating student who demonstrates involvement in community service. People are excited because this event offers something for everyone.

“It’s an opportunity for them [restaurant owners] to showcase their restaurant and it doesn’t cost them anything,” said Walter Lindner, village trustee and member of the Village of Montgomery Events Committee. “For people who buy a $30 ticket it’s a great event. It’s a win-win for the community.”

The gathering will be held at 141-142 Clinton Street on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 1-4 p.m. The cost for the occasion is $30 prepaid or $40.00 at the door. Guests must be 21 or older and can pre-purchase tickets online at givegab.com or in person at the Engineering & Surveying Properties at 71 Clinton Street.
