Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa announced today the first ORACLE (Opioid Response as County Law Enforcement) Summit to be held Wednesday, January 15 at 7 p.m. at the SUNY Ulster Stone Ridge campus, Vanderlyn Hall College Lounge.

The Summit will comprise the viewing of the award-winning film Smacked, and then a round table discussion and question and answer period will follow, moderated by Director of Community Health Relations from the County’s Department of Health and Mental Health, Vincent Martello.

Round table participants will include Sheriff Figueroa, Smacked filmmakers, County Executive Pat Ryan, drug court Judge Larry Ball, Judge Bryan Rounds, Dr. Stupple from Ellenville Regional Hospital, and representatives from Samadhi Recovery Outreach. Also in attendance will be several community groups who have worked in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Office ORACLE team to help combat opioid abuse in the county.

“This public health issue is an epidemic and must be treated on all fronts in a coordinated effort on the part of law enforcement and other health care, peer support, and social services agencies,” said Sheriff Figueroa. “We are proud to have begun this effort in 2019, and will continue to do what it takes to combat this issue in 2020.”
