VC passes capital proposition

The Valley Central school board passed a capital project resolution on March 18 calling for a variety of improvements in all district buildings.

The $4.7 million capital project will come at no cost to taxpayers thanks to New York State aid and the district’s capital reserve fund. A large part of the project will be work on the high school natatorium, including replacement of the filtration system. The public will vote on the proposal along with the 2024-25 budget May 21.

School Business Official Brad Conklin reported that the tax levy stands at 2.99% on the proposed 2024-25 budget at this time. Changes will depend on the passage of the New York State budget and the amount of state aid. The public will also elect two board members. A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held May 13.

Superintendent Evette Avila reported that high school parents met March 6 to discuss the February 9 altercations at the high school.
