Walden hosts its first Trunk or Treat event

Posted

The Village of Walden Recreation and Parks Department held the first annual Trunk or Treat event at Bradley Park on Saturday night.

The event began with children marching in a Halloween parade. Some of the notable costumes included a fireplace, snow globe and Tyrannosaurus Rex. Each child received a medal for their participation. During the parade, judges assessed the costumes to determine who had the most original, funniest, scariest and cutest costume.

After the parade, the winners were announced. Cecelia Barbera won most original costume for her snow globe outfit. Caitlin and Matthew Ramaglia won funniest costume for their washer and dryer outfit. Hunter Nolan’s scary clown outfit helped him win scariest costume. Cutest costume went to Lucas Hall. He dressed as a pirate for the event.

Following the costume contest was the trick-or-treating. Parents decorated the trunks of their cars and gave out candy. Some of the notable trunks included Jurassic Park, Scooby-Doo and Disney’s Frozen themes. Smiles could be seen on the faces of children and adults throughout the evening.

“[The Recreation and Parks Department wanted] to get the kids and community together in a safe environment to trick or treat and have fun,” said Michael Bliss, recreation coordinator for the Village of Walden Recreation and Parks Department.

The event was well received by those who attended.

“I thought it was awesome,” said Arleen Castillo-Rivera, vice president of the Walden Elementary School PTO. “This was nice because my kids got to see kids from school and from other schools. It was a great turnout.”
