Walden’s Scout Cabin gets an upgrade

Posted

Michael Bliss, Walden Recreation and Parks recreation coordinator, confirmed last week that the updates to the Walden Scout Cabin’s main meeting room have been completed. The cabin is located at 24 Albany Avenue and is a staple in the village’s scouting community.

The department redid the main meeting room along with help from Messco Building Supply and Cesar’s Drywall. Messco Building Supply donated the drywall for the project and workers from Cesar’s Drywall installed it. The Walden Recreation and Parks Department replaced the floors and installed light fixtures.

Bliss confirmed that his department will renovate a room each year, so they can stay within the budget. Next year they will make improvements to the storage room followed by the smaller meeting room and kitchen in the subsequent years. Bliss added that it was of paramount importance to make improvements to the scout cabin.

“It’s a long time coming,” he said. “The scout cabin is one of the most used buildings in the Village of Walden. You have 8-9 girl and boy scout troops who use it for their meetings and projects.”

John Revella, Walden Village Manager, was happy to see the improvements that were made to the scout cabin.

“It was in need of a lot of love,” he said. “So we’re doing some touch ups there, thankfully at a low cost.”

Mark Grogan, scoutmaster for Troop 31 of Montgomery, is thankful for all the hard work that has been put into renovating the main meeting room.

“The renovations to the cabin give a greater opportunity for the youth of Walden and of our community to have access to a great environment to keep on their scouting journeys...,” he said. “To have that room as a classroom, as a learning center for scouts, it’s just an unbelievable treasure.”
