Wallkill gets its green on

Everyone in Wallkill was Irish for a day at the 34 annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which took place last Sunday.

Decked out from head to toe in green, hundreds of residents lined main street to cheer on the parade participants. Children with shamrocks painted on their cheeks waved at the marchers and scrambled for candy.

Fire trucks inched down the street and blasted their horns. Members of various community organizations and businesses, including scouts, the Wallkill Lions Club, Walden Savings Bank and more, threw candy and handed out green beads.

Bagpipes and marching bands marched in step and played jaunty tunes. Horses in green garland trotted on the pavement.

The event showcased the little hamlet’s community spirit.

Stan Seagreen, Pastor of Wallkill Reformed Church marched for the second time in the parade with his church.

“All of us marching together is a great feeling,” Seagren said.
