Waterfront park re-opens

Social distancing rules still apply in Highland

Last Friday, Town of Lloyd Supervisor Fred Pizzuto re-opened the Highland Landing Park to the public.

Pizzuto said the park was originally closed about three weeks ago because a group of people in the pavilion had pushed three picnic tables together, “and were having like a Fourth of July type of party.” This sparked the closure until the town came up with a plan on how they were going to manage this issue going forward.

After a bit of procedural confusion among Town Board members, Pizzuto and the Chief of Police James Janso went down to the park and opened it, “and had the Highway Department take everything [yellow tape] away. Since then it’s been a low to medium volume of people.”

Pizzuto said the Police Department drives by the park on a regular basis to ensure that the public is observing the Governor’s order of proper social distancing.

“The thing kind of ran full cycle in about three weeks,” he said.
