Kudos to members of the Walden Veterans Park Committee who were able to meet on Flag Day at Walden Veterans Park to video a special program for Walden’s Community Council Facebook page.
Dave Penney, VFW Commander and Nat Winum, committee members, were unable to attend. Becky Pearson opened the program with a warm welcome, an overview of the park and a “Happy Birthday” to the Flag of the United States of America on celebrating its 243rd Birthdayl Brenda Adams read a poem “The American Flag” by David Materazzi. Brian Sebring led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and a thank you to everyone who has united to fight against the Coronavirus.
Boy Scouts Matthew and Nathaniel Walker of Troop 33 demonstrated the proper way to fold a flag and explained the meaning of each fold. Jodi Lynn played taped music including our National Anthem and America the Beautiful. Everyone joined in singing the words. Anita Vandermark closed the program with a thank you, a sincere wish to be free of any obstacles to enable everyone to attend next year.
Please visit the Walden Community Council Facebook Page to view the presentation and also to read about Flag Etiquette.

The Walden Rotary Club sends Happy Anniversary greetings to two special couples: Peter and Peggy Sullivan on June 28 and Bob and Linda Falk who will celebrate on June 29. Wishing both couples all life’s best!
I would like to take this opportunity to wish my brother Lenny Portuondo and his beautiful bride, Kathy, a very Happy Anniversary on June 26. Family and friends send them special greetings. Although they reside in another State, they continue to be faithful readers of the Wallkill Valley Times.

The time to place an order will end this year on July 15. Applications are available on the Village Website, WCC Facebook, VFW or by calling Brenda at 845-778-4028. Brick sizes are 4” x 8” - $40 and 8” x 8” - $80.

I recently received an email from Fr. Amuldass (Fr. Antony) of Mumbai, India. He relates in India 308,993 people were affected by the virus and 8,884 people have died.
Father Antony was scheduled to travel to Walden this summer to assist at Most Precious Blood Church. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19, and the Indian government being on lockdown, he is unable to travel. He conveys that he will miss seeing everyone and asks that we be united in prayer.
Please keep Father Antony in prayer.

Have you been watching our daily videos with Page Turner Adventures? A new program will be offered every day at noon for the next ten weeks. Page Turner Adventures offers crafts with supplies that can be found around the house, stories, guests and authors! Registration for our Summer Reading has begun. Miss Beth and Miss Linda have been hard at work gathering information for imaginations as we take activities to a virtual level.
Miss Jada continues to read her stories in different locations throughout the Village. Can you guess where she was this week? We did not forget about Summer Reading for the adults! Miss Lisa has been hard at work and will be offering activities, contests and book lists. We are excited to bring to you Nutritionist Kelly Pearson for a children’s cooking video in July and an adult session in August! All information will be in our packets for pick-up.

The library is still taking returned books and we are having fun doing Curbside Service and seeing all of you again! We will take appointments for essential services such as faxing, copying and limited computer time with only two computers in service. You must call ahead of time. Our hours and staff are limited.
We hope to resume normal hours in July and will make that announcement by the end of June.
