Air Show moved to smaller venue at Montgomery

The annual New York International Air Show, which draws large crowds to Orange County every summer, will have a decidedly different look this year.

For one thing, the venue will be different, having been moved to the smaller Orange County Airport in Montgomery.

For another, it will be a drive-in event to reflect New York State Health Department COVID-19 regulations. Spectators will be allowed to sit outside of their parked car, but cannot wander away from the parking space. They will be permitted to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages, but none will be available at the venue. No portable grills or cooking will be permitted. Neither will large umbrellas or tents.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will headline the event, scheduled for Saturday, August 29 and again on Sunday the 30th, featuring the F-22 Raptor Demo Team as previously announced and the F-35 Lighting II Demo Team was recently added. Also scheduled to appear are the Geico skytypers and the West Point Parachute Team.

Drive-in car passes are available at the show’s website, starting at $127 per car, with up to six people permitted in each vehicle. Front row passes for both Saturday and Sunday shows are already sold out, but a number of Premium (Row 3-4) passes were still available as of Tuesday, for $189. Tickets will not be available on the site.

Gates open at 10:30 a.m. each day. Show is rain or shine. If the show gets cancelled in its entirety on Saturday, tickets will be honored on Sunday, or if at capacity, automatically honored at the 2021 show. If Sunday’s show should get cancelled in its entirety, tickets will be honored at the 2021 show.
