Anna Romano, a longtime resident of Montgomery, passed away on January 24, 2019 at home.

She was born Anna Cavalluzzo on May 22, 1930 in Queens NY and married Alfred Romano, from Syracuse, NY in 1952.

Anna and Alfred, a career U.S. Air Force veteran lived in Bermuda, California, Texas and Plattsburgh, NY before settling in Montgomery in 1968. While raising four children Anna worked for the Valley Central School District and Fleet Bank while Alfred delivered mail for the USPS to Newburgh and Montgomery residents.

Anna was fiercely proud of her roots to include her immigrant parents, sister and seven brothers who all served their country during World War II. She always had a kind word for and supported veterans. Beyond the love of her family, Anna loved her cats, the NY Yankees and only the freshest and finest ingredients for a meal. Despite never having had a formal culinary education or class, she was a wonderful cook and loved feeding people. “Did you eat?” was a familiar question if you ever visited the Romano household.

She is survived by her husband Alfred Romano, Sr. of Montgomery, NY; her three sons: Roger Romano of Santa Cruz, CA, Joe Romano of Longwood, FL, Alfred Romano, Jr. and wife Geri Galazzo and granddaughter Giulia Romano of Pine Bush, NY; and her daughter Susan Kirkpatrick and husband Steven Kirkpatrick of Redwood City, CA.

Per Anna’s wishes a private mass was held on Tuesday January 29, at St. Patrick’s Church/Our Lady of the Lake Chapel in Newburgh.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the church and/or the humane society at: St. Patricks Church/Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, 55 Grand Street, Newburgh, NY 12550 or Humane Society of Walden, PO Box 135, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden NY 12586.

Burial will be in Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen, NY.
