Library hosts summer songwriter showcase

The Gardiner Library presents a summer music series featuring Hudson Valley based singer-songwriters performing in the round style. The next show takes place on August 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. with Ami Madeleine, Spero and Liana Gabel. Each show will be held on the outdoor stage (weather permitting). This is a free, rain or shine event. In case of rain, the show will be held in the community room.
Ami Madeleine is a Rosendale-based singer-songwriter. She takes her listeners into dreamlike introspection and carries them back to life with loving perspective. Inspired by the synergy of the natural world, her studies in Buddhism, and interpersonal relationships. Ami Madeleine’s songs explore the depths and insights of our shared experiences in love, heartbreak, life, and death. Writing music started as a means to personal transformation and meditation for her, which she radiates in her songwriting and performances, connecting the audience to themselves and each other with a raw and soothing lilt. With her recent single “Don’t Cry, Hold My Hand”, Ami is venturing from ukulele to guitar and reviving her love for the violin for her third full length album to be released in late 2019.
Spero is a songstress & educator with a fondness for loops and anything Funky. Her ethereal grooves, soulful voice and dark lyrics float over an original twist on finger-style guitar. Luscious blends of jazz, folk and world rhythms, particularly those of Senegal, West Africa, color her original compositions. She is on a mission of inspiring social solidarity through music, movement & supporting healthy food systems to reclaim the beauty & power of our humanity.
Through her music, Liana Gabel takes seemingly familiar stories, themes, and tropes about being human and transforms them into that which is profoundly unfamiliar and novel, yet warm and comforting. Her observations about the changing landscape of our relationships, the country, the world, and her own life clearly inform her work as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and tap dancer. Liana interweaves the depth and breadth of her experiences through melodies, words, and dance in a nexus of feeling supported by her musical influences which include jazz, pop, big band folk, and indie rock.
Future dates in the series include September 28. For directions or further information call 255-1255 or visit gardinerlibrary.org or the library’s Facebook page.
