Library presents short story reading contest for all ages

Gardiner Library presents Summer 2020 Short Story Writing Contest for children, teens and adults. For children ages 11 and under the Gardiner Library invites them to write at Tall Tale starting with the phrase “Dear Library, I could not return my book on time because…”
Contestants should finish the statement with a tall tale filled with exaggerations and outlandish characters to mesmerize our judges and entertain the librarians. There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner in each category. Contest closes Friday, August 14, 2020 at 5 p.m. Prizes and certificates will be issued along with publication on the Gardiner Library website and publicity in local press. Visit gardinerlibrary.org/writingcontests.asp for all contest rules.
For adults ages 18 and older, and teens ages 12-17, The Gardiner Library invites you to participate in this historical-fictional mash-up! Tall Tales are filled with exaggerations and outlandish characters. Be inspired by local history and community to create a short story filled with fantastical intrigue.
The writers will be judged in 2 groups (adults and teens) and there will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner in each category. Contest closes Friday, August 14, 2020 at 5 pm. Prizes and certificates will be issued along with publication on the Gardiner Library website and announcements in local press. Visit gardinerlibrary.org/writingcontests.asp for all contest rules.
