Holland Tunnel Art Newburgh is pleased to present an intimate afternoon with award winning songwriter and New York Blues Hall of Fame inductee Lex Grey, with musical guests, Sunday December 1.

Performance will begin at 2 p.m., with two sets, ending around 5 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door. Beverages and snacks will be served.

Lex Grey has been turning New York’s music world on its ear since she thundered on the scene like Mae West on a motorcycle. Rapidly rising to the status of cult rock diva, her repertoire blends the tortured soul of the blues with bawdy burlesque and Brooklyn attitude. Theater week calls Lex Grey “ the rock diva with the 24k gold voice.”

With seven albums to her credit, Lex’s original songs have received much critical acclaim and notoriety. The recipient of several ASCAP songwriter awards, her composition “Big Brooklyn Sky” was chosen to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Williamsburg Bridge. Several of her compositions have been featured in films and television shows. Her voice can saunter effortlessly through many soundscapes and styles. She has been compared to classic singers as diverse as Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin and even Tom Waits and Johnny Cash.

Lex Grey takes the stage in sequins, feathers and leathers with a style all her own. Her band, The Urban Pioneers explode with gritty sophistication creating a musical and visual patchwork of wild rock concert, barroom blues, Vaudeville Theater and after hours jazz jam. They dance fearlessly through eclectic instrumentation and genres with their feet planted firmly in the blues. The Urban Pioneers attract and embrace audiences of every taste and background, and are always expanding and evolving. “In order for the blues to evolve as an art form, I don’t believe musicians have to fit into a mold.” Grey says, “We stay true to our instincts and our influences and people identify with this honesty. If it comes from the heart it is both timely and timeless.”
