Couple wed in the 5th-grade classroom where they first met

Dan Moore and Diane Crist-Moore were married last Tuesday in their fifth grade classroom at Walden Elementary School where they met almost 54 years ago.

The two hit it off at their fifth grade class’ Halloween party on Oct. 29, 1966. Diane asked Dan to dance and later kissed him, leaving quite an impression on Dan.

“I never forgot that,” he said.

Dan moved with his family to Phoenix, Arizona in 1971. He served as a police officer for several agencies and was a traffic court judge. After decades with no interaction, Diane friended Dan on Facebook in 2017. He talked with her on her hour-long drive to her home in the Town of Newburgh from her job as an Assistant Superintendent for Business at the Croton-Harmon Union Free School District.

Now that they are both retired, the couple can spend more time together. They will live in Diane’s home in the Town of Newburgh from May through October and Dan’s home in Phoenix from November through April. The couple plans to also travel several times throughout each year.

“We really hope for companionship, love,” Diane said regarding their marriage.

Rev. James O’Connell of the First Reformed Church of Walden married the couple and commended Dan and Diane for their long-standing love.

“The bottom line is you fell in love way back in the ‘60s and here we are in the 2020s and you’re still in love and may that love continue well into the 2040s and beyond,” he said.
