The Walden Village Board meeting on Tuesday, March 23 was Susan Taylor’s last as mayor and she offered some parting remarks in the waning moments of the gathering. She has served on the village board since 2009, serving as mayor since 2015.

Taylor thanked the board members for their service and noted that she will miss them.

“I tell everybody that I’m one of seven...,” she said. “I accomplished nothing while I was here. It was a cumulative effort from board members, the manager, the attorney, employees. No one does anything by themselves when it comes to the Village of Walden.”

She also expressed gratitude toward the residents of the village.

“I really have to thank the people of the Village of Walden,” Taylor said. “Thanks for your support and your confidence in what our board does.”

At last Monday’s Maybrook Village Board meeting, Mayor Dennis Leahy acknowledged Taylor.

“I had the pleasure of working with Susan over the years,” he said. “Susan is a wonderful person and she truly cares about her village. I wish her all the best and thank her for her service to her community.”

John Ramos, deputy mayor of the Village of Walden, will take over as mayor at noon on April 5. He is thankful for all that Taylor has done as mayor.

“If it wasn’t for her tutelage and her guidance and her support, we couldn’t have been an effective board,” Ramos said.

He is ready to move the village forward as mayor.

“I’m all in today and I’ll be all in for the next two years...,” Ramos said to Taylor. “I think we have a good team here and mayor, I feel that we’re gonna continue to do the job that you entrusted us in.”

Taylor is looking forward to her retirement from public service. She will look fondly on her tenure serving the Village of Walden.

“It’s been a wild ride for the past 12 years,” she said.
