East Coldenham Elementary School presents Aladdin, Jr.

A “whole new world” was created at East Coldenham Elementary School on Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22. The stage was transformed into the city of Agrabah, the fictional city where “Aladdin, Jr.” was set. The play is based on the 2014 Broadway production of Aladdin. The EC Drama Club sang and danced superbly through the two performances before sold out audiences.

The production was under the supervision of Mrs. Julie Cavanaugh. Against a backdrop of the royal palace with its glittering sand, Cadee Eckert played the Genie, and Xavier Vidal was Aladdin, with Laila Brestovansky playing Jasmine. The stage was a rainbow of colorful costumes worn by over thirty cast members. Four adult had a cameo appearance as bearers of the In addition, ten club members served as the crew for the play.

The play was well received both nights of the performance. On Thursday evening, one audience member who had just turned six was serenaded with “Happy Birthday” by the cast, crew and audience as her brother who played one of Aladdin’s friends, brought her up on the stage sharing the magic of the performance with her. It was a very touching moment that extended the magic of the evening well past the performance.
