Songwriting circles at Gardiner Library

The bi-monthly event Songwriter Circles by the Hudson Valley Music Collective (HVMC) will take place at the Gardiner Library on Wednesday January 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The event takes place on the third Wednesday every other month, open to all ages and levels with a $10 suggested donation.Led by local musician, composer and teacher Michael Hollis, musicians will be given the chance to share with each other the successes and pitfalls of composing. No restrictions on genre and creators can learn from one another, hone their craft, and share new work.

Each circle will end with a short set performed by a different guest artist of the night. Bring your instruments!

Visit hvmusiccollective.com to learn more about the Collective.

The series will be offered in the library community room, 133 Farmer’s Turnpike in Gardiner.

Make a Monopoly board game

The Gardiner Library will host a Monopoly Game Making Day on Saturday January 18 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

This family program is for ages seven to adult. There is a material cost of $8 and attendees must register by January 15 with their choice of Harry Potter or Star Wars theme. Design a table-top game board version of Monopoly just like the original inventor Lizzie Magie! Listen to the story Pass Go and Collect $200: The Real Story of How Monopoly Was Invented by Tanya Lee Stone and be inspired to make a unique monopoly-style board game.

Events take place in the library community room, 133 Farmer’s Turnpike in Gardiner.

A different way to look at history

Designing figurines and terrain will also be explored during gaming time.

This program was made possible through a grant from the Historical Miniature Gaming Society (HGMS). It will continue to meet monthly on the Third Saturday. For more information contact Carolyn Thorenz at cthorenz@rcls.org.
