The Gardiner Library will host a Felted Soap Family Art Workshop with Christine Adams on Saturday February 29 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Sign up by February 26. The class costs $7 for supplies per person. Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees will make their own felted soap. Felted soap is a bar of soap wrapped in wool.

This thin wool coat helps soap last longer, and makes slippery bars easier to hang on to. The wool is very gently exfoliating, and can replace a washcloth or bath pouf in the shower. Perfect gift for Mother’s Day, Grandparents Day, birthdays and more.

Felting uses a specialized needle to manipulate 100% wool fibers into place. Felting is an age old craft that uses wool which is sheared, cleaned and processed to produce what is called roving. Roving is manipulated with a specialized needle to form shapes and create unique, natural, fun and functional objects.

Christine Adams has been felting for 10 years and has taught monthly felting classes at the Wallkill and Plattekill libraries as well as one-on-one and for small parties and community groups. Christine loves to teach and work with her hands. In addition to felting, Christine has experience with wood burning, card making, collage, and jewelry making.

The workshop takes place in the library community room, 133 Farmer’s Turnpike in Gardiner

Repair Cafe is Saturday
The Gardiner Library will host a Repair Café on Sunday February 23 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Broken items include small appliances, lamps, clothing, frames, chairs and more. There will be free coffee and tea (bring your own mug) and baked treats and fruit for sale. Currently the café is looking for “Repair Coaches” to guide people in fixing all kinds of things. Repair coaches bring their own tools and supplies and offer repairs at no cost. If you would like to volunteer, the commitment can be on a per-event basis.
