Gardiner Library presents virtual writing workshop

The Gardiner Library will host a four session Writing Workshop: Prose or Memoir with writer and editor, Laurence Carr virtually via Zoom on Wednesdays beginning May 6 through May 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
The course costs $50 for four sessions or $20 for a single drop-in session. Pre-register by contacting Library Director, Nicole Lane at nlane@rcls.org and the Zoom link will be emailed upon completing registration. Attendees will work in either fiction or memoir (or both). Laurence will post lectures for discussion and writers will post their work (up to 8 pages for each session) for the mentor to read and evaluate. Writing will be shared with other participants. Each session will touch upon a key component of narrative: story structure, character, and theme with handouts sent to each writer. Sessions will discuss each writer’s work and will be given the mentor’s feedback. Short writing exercises will be given to deepen each writer’s project. Writers must supply their email addresses and be able to navigate in a Zoom meeting.
Laurence Carr is a Hudson Valley writer. He taught Creative and Dramatic Writing at SUNY New Paltz for 24 years. His work has been published and produced throughout the U.S. and Europe. He is an editor with Codhill Press (Codhill.com) and is the publisher of Lightwood magazine (Lightwoodpress.com).
