The Gardiner Library will host a Family Art Workshop with Jill Obrig on Wednesday July 17 from 3:30 to 4:30 PM entitled Birds All Around Us.
Sign up by July 15 for a unique family experience. Children ages 5-12 are welcome with the help of a parent, sibling or other adult. Families will listen to the story Rainbow Crow and then analyze the wonderful sculptures of artist Pablo Picasso. See the fantastic ceramic owls he made and delve into the techniques of sculpting your own owl.

Jill Obrig has been teaching students ages 2-92 for over 30 years at museums, camps, galleries, private and public schools and libraries. For the past three years she has collaborated with the Stone Ridge, Hurley and Rosendale Libraries winning four grants for the project “Exploring Connections between Art, Art History and Literature.”

The next Family Art Workshops will take place on Wednesdays July 24 and July 31. Sing and dance to the the book Dem Bones, then look at the art of the wonderful sculptor Alberto Giacometti and sculpt your own figure with a pose. Finally, explore the wonderful world of artist Laurel Burch and her colorful cat images by hearing the hilarious book Me and My Cat, then drawing and painting your own style cat.

The workshop takes place in the library community room, 133 Farmer’s Turnpike in Gardiner. The community room is equipped with T-coil technology for those with compatible hearing aids and cochlear implants. For directions or further information call 255-1255 or visitgardinerlibrary.org or the library’s Facebook page.
