Gardiner Library to host Healthy Living Presentation
The Gardiner Library will host a Virtual Presentation entitled “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research” on Wednesday May 13 from 2 to 3 p.m.
This program is provided by the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter. Those interested must pre-register at:  communityresourcefinder.org.
This workshop covers four areas of lifestyle habits associated with healthy aging: Cognitive activity, exercise, diet/nutrition and social engagement. In each area, we will discuss what we know, drawing on current research, as well as what we can do — steps to take now to improve or maintain overall health in each area. At any age, there are lifestyle habits we can adopt to help maintain or even potentially improve our health. These habits may also help to keep our brains healthy as we age and possibly delay the onset of cognitive decline.

Library hosts virtual writing workshop
The Gardiner Library will host a virtual interactive writing workshop “Witness to History” with Carol Bergman on Monday May 18 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m..
Beginners and seasoned writers are welcome.  A $10 donation to the library is suggested.
To register contact Library Director, Nicole Lane at nlane@rcls.org for the Zoom link and instructions for payment. Students will choose a reported event they have witnessed either first-hand or through the media. We will begin with oral story-telling of personal recollections and then discuss the importance of primary sources—such as interviews, and archival material at the library—before drafting a few paragraphs of a personal essay. The only required tools are memory, a notebook and a free flowing pen.
Carol Bergman is a journalist whose articles, essays, and interviews have appeared in The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, and Salon.com. Her essay, “Objects of Desire” was nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She is the author of biographies of Mae West and Sidney Poitier and the memoir, Searching for Fritzi. She compiled and edited Another Day in Paradise; International Humanitarian Workers Tell Their Stories, nominated for the prestigious J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize. Carol Bergman lives in New Paltz, NY and teaches writing at New York University.
