General Montgomery Day is canceled

The General Montgomery Day Committee announced last Tuesday that this year’s General Montgomery Day has been canceled due to concerns stemming from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the General Montgomery Day Committee has come to the decision not to hold the event this year,” the committee said in an announcement on the Village of Montgomery website. “It was a difficult choice; however, safety is our first concern for our residents, visitors and vendors.”

General Montgomery Day Committee Chairman Patricia Imbriani noted that the success of the event ultimately led to its cancellation.

“Our biggest reason for not being able to do it is because so many people come,” she said. “We don’t know where they’re coming from, we don’t know how many people are coming.”

General Montgomery Day has been a staple in the Village of Montgomery for many years. The event features a parade, 8K run/walk, craft and food vendors, live music and an evening of fireworks. This year would have been the 31st version of the annual tradition. It was scheduled for Sept. 12.

The committee’s letter concluded with words of encouragement, as they hope the event will take place next year.

“We appreciate your continued support and commitment to General Montgomery Day,” they said. “We look forward to your participation next year.”
