Town of Shawangunk Walker Valley Halloween Parade will be held on Sunday Oct. 27. According to Town Councilman Binker DeWitt, parade line-up is at 12:30 pm and it is suggested that you park at the firehouse and take the hay wagon ride up to the parade line-up area. Step off for the parade is at 1 p.m. All area residents are welcome to participate. Everyone will end up back at the firehouse where parade participants will get a hot dog, drinks and a bag of candy.

In conjunction with the town event, Walker Valley Auto Sales & Detailing will be hosting their 6th Trunk or Treat event from 12 noon to 4 p.m. adding to the fun at the firehouse. Owner Charlie Garrison says bring your pets in costume! Enter a float in the parade! Trunk or Treat vehicles provide their own decorations and candy. Call 845.800.8431 to reserve a spot. Trunk or Treat will not begin until after the parade.
Walker Valley Auto Sales will have additional activities that will include carnival games, pumpkin painting, a bounce house and much more. Halloween type craft vendors can participate for a $20 fee. Food vendor spots are $50.00. Aliza Garrison is looking for vendors that offer Fall desserts and/or candy apples; taco/empanada food, chili or other Fall foods. Find Aliza on Facebook or call her at 845.524.4391. Vendor fees will be donated to the Walker Valley Fire Company.

Halloween is a time of providing, to the youth of our community, a safe and fun filled area where they can enjoy the bounties of the occasion. Pine Bush is the main stay of our area – anyone included in the Pine Bush Central School District. Here is a statement made by Chris & Raquel Martinez of Pine Bush: Each Halloween the neighborhoods off Main Street get flooded with hundreds of trick-or-treaters. While most of us look forward to celebrating and distributing candy, it can become a financial burden to some. To help off-set the cost of candy for families residing within town there was an idea for the surrounding community to donate candy. Last year we were able to collect over 100 bags of candy, which were distributed to families within town. DeWitt Martinez Funeral Home has agreed to be the official candy collection location for anyone who would like to donate. Thank you for your support in continuing to make Halloween in Pine Bush a joyous event for all!
If you are a resident within town and would like candy distributed to your home at the conclusion of the collection period, please PM (Facebook) me your address.”
Collection Dates: Oct. 1 thru Oct. 27. Distribution Dates: Oct. 28-30. Location: DeWitt-Martinez Funeral Home, 64 Center St., Pine Bush. Collection bin will be located on the front porch. Amazon orders accepted at above address. Raquel also shared with me that you can email dewittfuneralhome@gmail.com for arrangements on candy distribution to Pine Bush residents.

The Walker Valley Marching Band is holding a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Sun. Oct. 20 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Walker Valley Firehouse. Adults: $8, Seniors: $7, kids 5-12: $6 and kids 4 and under eat for free!

The Shawangunk Democrats would like to thank everyone who brought personal care items to the September 14 meeting at the Walker Valley Schoolhouse.
We also want to send an extra special thank you to Arlene Rivera, who went out and collected from her friends and brought in a whole bunch of stuff! We will also be collecting at next month’s meeting on October 11 at the Shawangunk Town Hall. If anyone is able to donate or would like to be like Arlene and spread the word to her or his friends, we are still in need of any personal care items – mostly diapers, pull-ups, tampons, sanitary pads, new socks and new underwear.
Items can be brought to next month’s meeting, or they can be dropped off at the Town Hall in the hamlet of Wallkill, the schoolhouse in Walker Valley, the Cobblestone Deli and Pizza in Walker Valley, the Borderline Deli in Lake Estates, the hamlet of Wallkill Library, the hamlet of Wallkill Savings & Loan Bank and Broad Leaf Books in Pine Bush. Kelli Palinkas Greer says thank you again for your generosity and for helping to spread the word.
