The Town of Shawangunk Walker Valley Community Enhancement Committee and the Pine Bush Lions Club team up to protect our environment on Sun. April 28 8 a.m. to noon. Registration, road assignments and refreshments will be located at the Schoolhouse Community Center, 6 Marl Rd. & Route 52, Walker Valley.

We will provide the bags and vests will be available - but wear bright colored clothing for your safety. Bring your gloves, any other personal comfort items for yourself and we suggest bug spray. For those who can’t make it Sunday and want to participate, we will make bags available so you can cleanup near your home or business the week prior – please take pictures and share on Facebook validating your participation. [I think there will be a secret picture taker roaming around all week so make sure you look really busy!]

Bags will be available at Walker Valley Auto from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon. 4/22 - Fri. 4/26 and Sat. 4/27 8 a.m. to noon. 3rd & Co will have bags from Weds. 4/24 – Sat. 4/27 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Hudson Valley Stilettos on Steel will be holding a celebration to honor International Female Ride Day on Saturday May 4 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Walker Valley Firehouse.

Events expected are a 45-50-mile round trip scenic ride through Lake Minnewaska & the Shawangunk Mountains, family fun, food, games, contests and vendors. Ride registration begins at 11:30 a.m. – all riders are welcome to join in on the days’ activities. There will also be live music by Side F/X Band and this entire event is open to the public.

Tickets cost $10 each and that gets you a 50/50 raffle ticket and food. Proceeds go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Walker Valley Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary. Firehouse is located at 3679 State Route 52, Walker Valley.

For more information contact 800-2418 or email erica@stilettosonsteel.com or call Charles Garrison at 744-6441.

I hope you have all been collecting up your craft supply items that you no longer need/want and have called Kelli Palinkas Greer at 744-3055 or emailed her at kellipalinkas@yahoo.com to repurpose those items for you. She is a friend of the Walker Valley Community Enhancement Committee and will be holding a sale of crafts items on May 3 and May 4 in the schoolhouse community center.

Proceeds from this sale will benefit the committee and their many projects throughout the hamlet. Thank you, Kelli, for your continued support.

The Walker Valley Mountain View United Methodist Church would like to invite all area residents to this year’s Easter celebrations. On April 18 there will be a Holy Thursday service at 7p.m. with communion. On April 19, Good Friday, there will be a 7 p.m. service. Part of the service will include a Tenebrae Service.

“The word “Tenebrae” comes from the Latin meaning “darkness”. The Tenebrae is an ancient Christian Good Friday service that makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus’ burial.

This increasing darkness symbolizes the approaching darkness of Jesus’ death and of hopelessness in the world without God. The service concludes in darkness, sometimes with a final candle, the Christ candle, carried out of the sanctuary, symbolizing the death of Jesus. A loud noise may also sound symbolizing the closing of Jesus’ tomb. The worshipers then leave in silence to ponder the impact of Christ’s death and await the coming Resurrection.” [taken from the UMC website www.UMC.org]

Easter Sunday Sunrise Service will be held at 6am on the church’s property located on Gillespie St., Pine Bush NY. Look for the cross and a gathering of people in the middle of the field. Following that service will be the regular 8am and 10 a.m. services at the Walker Valley Church location. There will be a brunch available between the 8 a.m. & 10 a.m. services for your enjoyment. All area residents are invited to participate in all or any of the church’s activities.

They have something called Polka Dot Day on April 10th. Aug. 29 trip to High Point Rich Wilson costs $45 for members; $55 for non-members. Looks like Oct. 21 is a River View Inn trip - $45 for members; $55 for non-members.
