John James Marron Jr. of Montgomery, a retired security officer, former small business owner and lifetime resident of the area passed away at home on Friday February 19, 2021. He was 69.

The son of the late John James Marron, Sr. and Helen (Rosenberg) Marron, he was born December 31, 1951 in Newburgh.

John graduated from Valley Central High School in 1969 and married his soul mate on June 29, 1974 just a week after she graduated. In honor of their deep love for one another, they renewed their vows in Hawaii while celebrating their 30th Anniversary in 2009.

He owned and operated John’s Carpet for many years; selling and installing carpet and serving as an authorized Electrolux dealer. His real interest though was in corrections and security. In 1982, he graduated from the NYS Corrections Academy and ultimately became a Sergeant. He later worked at the Orange County 911 Dispatch Center and for Garrison Protective Services. John spent over a decade working as a customer care specialist at the Home Depot in Middletown as well. He enjoyed interacting with customers and developed many wonderful friendships during his time there. He was especially proud to lead the Kids Depot workshop series and of the two years he volunteered planning and building a MicroSociety at Mechanicstown Elementary.

John’s love for working with children was evident. He coached Little League Baseball in Montgomery as well as junior bowling leagues in both Walden and Middletown. He helped to build many playgrounds across Orange County including the Danny Meyer Memorial Playground in Maybrook and several for Orange County Safe Homes.

He was an avid fan of racing for many years and not only spectated, but also raced the dirt track in his #777 cherry red 1967 Chevy Camaro at Orange Country Speedway. He loved vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and looked forward each summer to spending time at the Cape Hatteras seashore.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann (Srofe) Marron at home;  daughter, Wendy Plante, her husband Matthew and their sons Lucas and Aidan of Montgomery; Son, John Marron III and his significant other Lory Maulik of Montgomery; Sisters Ellen Dykshoorn and her husband Edward of Goshen and JoAnn Scheels and her husband Sanford of Montgomery; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
