Methodist Church welcomes new pastor, steeple

Kudos to Mike Bliss, Village of Walden’s Recreation Coordinator, who was recently honored with the Boy Scout’s Spark Plug award from the Heritage District.
The Spark Plug Award is given in recognition to those people who provide the spark that ignites the energy of others for the betterment of scouting. Mike welcomes the opportunity to work with many local organizations and the youth of our community. Thank you for all you do Mike. Keep up your good work. You truly lead by example!

Congratulations to John Ramos, Cheryl Baker and Willie Carley as they assume their positions as newly elected Village Trustees at their first official meeting on October 6, 2020 - 6:30 p.m., Village Hall, 3rd floor Bradley Assembly Room, 1 Municipal Square.

As you travel out of Walden to property located at 1206 Rt. 52 #2, Walden you will see the new Walden United Methodist Church. Construction began in 2019 and is nearing completion.
During the month of August siding was installed and a long-awaited steeple was delivered from the factory in Alabama and currently sits majestically upon the roof. This was the second attempt to deliver the steeple. It was originally to be delivered in June. It made it as far as Pennsylvania, when the truck was less than 2 hours away, something fell off a truck in front of them. They had to make a sudden swerve to avoid being hit but it bounced up and damaged the steeple. Fortunately no one was hurt. However, it was necessary to turn around and make the two day trip back to Alabama for the steeple to be re-fabricated.

This procedure included the cross on top which stands about 21 feet high. Many thanks are sent to Ed and Marilyn Jackson, Chris Obie and Ryan, Anna and David Zirilli who rushed to the church on short notice to assist Joe Ryan and his crew from Ryan Construction unload the 400 lb. steeple. I will keep you posted as interior work continues. If you would like to be a part of the legacy and history of the new UMC Church, orders for commemorative bricks are still being taken.
Purchased bricks will be placed in a special area of the new church property. Contact Gail Ambrosetti at 845-527-8928 or email gail.ambrosetti@gmail.com for information.

The Josephine-Louise Public Library sends the following news: September is Library Card Sign-Up month. It usually coincides with children going back to school, beginning their homework assignments, signing up for after school activities and library visits. This year is certainly unusual. Libraries are finding new ways to communicate with our communities while collaborating and sharing best practices for outreach, but our mission has not changed. If you do not have a library card yet, or your card is expired, this is a perfect time to get your card or update an old one. We have been waiving fines since COVID-19 forced closings. Please don’t let a bill get in the way of accessing the many services that libraries have to offer. Walden residents simply need a photo ID and another document that supports their Walden address. If you are signing up your little ones (ages 5 & up or in Kindergarten), they will receive a special packet from us. Stop in. It only takes a few minutes!
One of our newest services includes “Hoopla”. With your library card you can access music, movies, TV shows, e-books and audio books. They have added graphic novels and classical music to the collection. Banned Books Week is coming up. You will be able to download an extensive list of the most recent banned books as well as the classics.
