The Montgomery village board has granted the property owners of two unsafe buildings extensions for building assessments.

Village of Montgomery Mayor Stephen Brescia granted the property owner at 91 Roosevelt Avenue a month extension to assess the building. Brescia also said the property owner must maintain the lawn and premises. The property has been deemed unsafe and was ordered to be demolished.

Village of Montgomery Building and Fire Inspector Bruce Yancewicz, Sr., said the bank will take action to remedy the situation on behalf of the property owner.

In a meeting on June 4, Yancewicz said the property had 4.5 inches of water in the basement, there was evidence of black mold, and live animals had been removed, as well as a deceased dog; of about three weeks. The electric had been off for weeks and the grass is about two feet high.

A mold assessment completed by Bohlanger Engineering and Yancewicz’s own assessment concluded the building was uninhabitable due to mold.

Yancewicz said the property is secured.

The property owner at 145 Ward Street, which was previously deemed unsafe and ordered to be demolished, has also been given an extension to November to secure the building and fix the exterior of the building, Yancewicz said.
A structure fire occurred at the property in Jan. 2018, after which notice was issued by Yancewicz to take action and remove all belongings to prevent mold.
