MPB students win Science World contest

Congratulations to the 7th Grade Science class at Most Precious Blood School. On March 7, under the direction of Mrs. Laura Callahan they were declared winners of the Ginger Bread House contest held by Science World. The students were directed to use engineering techniques in order to build a sturdy structure.

Science World is a publication put out by Scholastic.com and is available nationwide. Any school that enriches their curriculum with the publication is invited to join the contest. Great job everyone!

After a recent snowstorm, Violet Alcott-Baker, daughter of John and Wendy Baker, sister to Brody Baker, visited her special neighbor, Brenda “Maka” Adams. At the ripe old age of two and half Violet decided it was time to build her first snowman.
Violet and “Maka” began this special project and later enticed Dad to lend a hand too. Violet’s snow man is the hit of Valley Avenue. Many are seen stopping by to take a photo.

Time to partake of Lenten Dinners hosted by M. P. B., K. of C. 9254. Let the Knights do the cooking on Fridays during Lent. Call (845) 778-6664 to reserve an order no later than Thursday for Fridays meal.
All meals are $7 each. Take out only! Pick up at Father Sullivan Hall, Walnut Street on Friday 5 – 6:30 p.m.
The March 15 dinner consists of breaded flounder; garlic mashed Potatoes; Vegetable, Biscuit and Cookies is on the menu.

The Walden Community Council, an organization of your neighbors who are concerned about improvements of our hometown is looking for new members. Why not attend their next meeting on Wednesday, March 13 and discover all the special things they do.

Meetings are held at a various business locations each month. The March meeting will be held at the Wallkill Valley Federal Savings & Loan, 12 Main Street, Walden. The Harvest Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. The WCC meeting starts promptly at 7 p.m.

It’s almost time for The Coldenham Fire Dept. St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast. Come out and support your volunteers on Sunday, March 17, 7 a.m. - 11 a.m., 511 Coldenham Road, Walden.

You will find a special breakfast of omelets made to order, Corned Beef hash, pancakes, French toast, eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon, orange juice, coffee or tea. Adults $10; Seniors and children up to age 10 – $8; children under 3 FREE. This event is not to be missed.

Please support the Walden Historical Society fundraiser on Tuesday, March 26, 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Eat in or Take Out at Franco’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, 74 Oak Street, Walden.

Twenty percent of your meal purchase will be donated to the Walden Historical Society.

Boys and Girls Ages 5-16 its time to register for Walden’s Park & Recreation Dept. 2019 Tennis Program. Visit villageofwalden.org for the link to Online Registration.

Program will tentatively begin the end of April and will run for 5 weeks at the Village Tennis Courts located at Bradley Park on Albany Avenue. Village residents – $30; Town residents – $40 plus $3 online registration fee. Questions call 778-2177 ext. 1524.

Kate Kusterbeck will walk us through a “Cosmic Kitchen Workshop” on Tuesday, March 19, 6:30 p.m. Kate is a Health and Wellness Coach and this is Part 3 in a series of health related workshops. All are welcome.
