Music in the Grove to return in July

Congratulations to a very special Waldenite who is currently in the service of our great country. Calista Bond sends word that she just graduated from Valley Forge Military College with an Associates of Arts in Justice and Security Studies, as well as a certificate in Cyber Security with Magna cum laude honors. Calista was commissioned into the U. S Army as a 2nd Lt. on May 21 and will be branching Military intelligence. Master Sergeant Patrick Wimmer, JROTC Instructor at Valley Central High School, was Calista’s first salute. In the Fall she will attend American University in Washington, D.C. and will pursue a bachelors’ degree in International Relations and Arabic. You make us proud Lt. Bond!

At the June 4th Town of Montgomery Board Meeting, Supervisor Maher awarded Walden Community Council member Jodi Lynn the “Citizen of the Month Award”. The award was given in recognition of her volunteerism with the WCC and being a member of the Town’s Community Response Team. Congratulations for all you do for everyone! We are blessed by all your good deeds.

Jean Winum and her outstanding husband Larry together with the Beautification Committee of the Walden Community Council continue to provide Main Street with unique bicycle art. Be sure to check out their latest creation “Purple Bike” displayed in front of Hairworks on Main Street. So special! WCC’s mission is to create a positive image in the Village of Walden, work with village government towards unified goals and community projects, and increase participation of residents and local businesses in community activities. Kudos to all involved.

Belated Happy Birthday wishes to Walden Sunshine Society member Mary Tighe who celebrated her special day on June 11. All members join in and thank her for all she has done for this great society.
The Walden Rotary Club sends birthday greetings to their following members: Francoise Pierre on June 18; Steve Bojsiuk and Peter Sullivan who both celebrate on June 21. Thank you to all for the service above self they render to our community.

Mike Ciardullo is looking forward to celebrating his birthday on June 24. I’m sure Darlene, the girls (Kendra and Holly) and all family members will make the day the best ever! Happy Birthday from me too Mike!

Please be advised of Walden’s Grass Cutting Code. Per Village Code Chapter 105, Section 105-2: growth of weeds, grass or other rank vegetation to a height greater than five (5) inches or any accumulation of dead grass, weeds or brush is prohibited. Failure to comply with this code will result in the Village undertaking the cutting and/or clean up, and presenting you, as the owner, with a bill for services to cut said grass, brush, and weeds/clean up. If you have any questions, call the Village office at 845-778-2177 ext. 1505.
Pay your Village Tax, Water and Sewer online. Credit/Debit card payments can be made online by accessing the link on their website villageofwalden.org. Also for your convenience, there is a secured payment drop box located outside Municipal Building next to the Walden P. D. front door.

Be reminded, the sale of memorial bricks or honoring veterans bricks to be installed and dedicated at Walden Veterans Memorial Park at the Veterans Day Ceremony will end this year on July 15. Applications are available on the Village Website, WCC Facebook, VFW or by calling Brenda at 845-778-4028. Brick sizes are 4” x 8” - $40 and 8” x 8” - $80. They make great Father’s Day or Birthday gifts for a special veteran.
Father’s Day will be celebrated on June 21. Let’s pay tribute to our Fathers.

It’s time to get on Board with the Walden PBA in honoring Walden’s Police Chief. After 37 years of service to the community, Chief Jeffry Holmes is retiring. So happy to receive the news that “Music in the Grove” sponsored by the Village of Walden, the Josephine-Louise Public Library and the Walden Community Council will hold their annual “Music in the Grove” FREE Summer Concert Series. The first program will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 6:30 p.m. featuring local musician/song writer, Kevin Cronin on the guitar. Performances are held at Wooster Grove Memorial Park, 89 East Main Street, Walden. In case of inclement weather concerts will be canceled. Questions?

The Summer Reading Program registration will begin June 29. The theme for this year is “Imagine Your Story”. Weekly packets will be available for ages 3 – 6 years. Ages 7 years through 12 will receive their own age appropriate packet with detailed information for ongoing programs and contests. Page Turner Adventure will see us through many of the virtual activities!
This exceptional team is an Emmy Award-winning children’s television and live show production company. Catch them on our Facebook Watch! They will post something every day for ten weeks beginning June 15.

The adults will have their own Summer Reading “packet” of information for summer activities, including book and movie discussions, creative writing and virtual cooking! We are pleased to host Nutritionist Kelly Pearson as part of our line-up. Kelly will show us tips and tricks for healthy cooking – all from her own kitchen!
