New deli/bakery opens on Orange Avenue

Great news! The Orange Avenue Tres Leches Deli & Bakery has opened at 113 Orange Avenue, Walden. Stop in and welcome the Morocho family: Jonathan and Diego (brothers) and Walter and Rosa (Dad and Mom) to Walden. They are currently opened Monday – Saturday 7 a.m. – 4 p.m..
They offer a wide variety of breakfast items, sandwiches, specialty sandwiches, salads and many daily Spanish and American hot items. Among many other hot items on Monday, Wednesday and Friday you will find delicious empanadas. All bakery items are homemade by Mr. Morocho.

Many things to look forward to this month. Don’t miss tonight’s event! At 6:30 p.m. , Wednesday, July 1 and every Wednesday through August 26 “ Music in the Grove” offers a free Summer Concert at Wooster Grove Memorial Park, 89 East Main Street.
Tonight we look forward to featuring Kevin Cronin, Singer and Songwriter who will perform a live solo acoustic concert! Kevin will launch off this season’s concert series with a mix of original and cover songs! Bring your friends, your lawn chairs and stop by for a safe, socially distant concert.

Walden’s Parks and Recreation Coordinator, Michael Bliss sends word that the Walden Harvest Fest has been canceled for the 2020 year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The committee has made this decision because the safety of the patrons, vendors, exhibits and staff is most important to us. We are sorry for any inconvenience but we look forward to 2021 to be the best Harvest Fest yet.

Walden Senior Club members send “Happy Birthday” wishes to the following club members celebrating July birthdays: Pat Bauman: Shirley Bennett; Anne Lazatin; Lorraine Judkins; Aida Joe; Diane Moore; Shirley Northrop; Shirley Orndorff; Elayne Ryan; Pat Schuettich and Norma Trent. All members join in looking forward to holding their meetings again to personally wish everyone all life’s best! I’m sure there will be cake too!

The Walden PBA invites you to come out and help them celebrate Chief Jeffrey Holmes’ “Walk Out” on his last day – Friday, July 17, noon. Please arrive at 11:30 a.m. for the line-up.

Going in for surgery, have a bad fall, or in need of a walker or cane. Who do you call? Anyone living in Walden, Wallkill, Maybrook, Montgomery or Pine Bush should call the Walden Sunshine Society, organized in 1910 under the leadership of Mary Knapp Hill.
A key feature of this century old organization is its large inventory of medical equipment: walkers, canes, crutches, bath seats, commodes, transport chairs, wheel chairs are loaned out free of charge, for a three-month period to those in need. Sunshine Society meetings are currently held at the Walden Municipal Building. New members are always welcome. Residents will find in the Walden Sunshine Society an opportunity to help those in their community.

Time to purchase a memorial brick or an honoring veteran brick to be installed and dedicated at Walden Veterans Memorial Park at the Veterans Day Ceremony is fast approaching. Time to place an order will end on July 15. Applications are available on the Village Website, WCC Facebook, VFW or by calling Brenda at 845-778-4028. Brick sizes are 4” x 8” - $40 and 8” x 8” - $80.

Be reminded that the deadline date to place an ad in the Walden PBA full color retirement guide honoring Walden’s Police Chief Jeffry Holmes is September 1, 2020. Your Story = Our Story. The Josephine-Louise Public is asking its patrons and community members to help make history by sharing your Story of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Your response will help future generations in understanding what we have experienced these past few months. In collecting these stories, we will all become witnesses to this period in history providing information about our daily life during this global pandemic. Adding these stories to our historic record will show how we overcame this difficult time through strength and perseverance. The Library Board of Trustees will hold their meeting outdoors at Wooster Grove on Wednesday, July 1, 5:30 p.m. All are welcomed to attend.
Even though our building has been closed, we have been planning our Summer Reading Programs. “Imagine Your Story”! The Children’s activities have begun but it is not too late to register and pick up an age appropriate packet. We offer daily postings of Page Turner Adventure on our Facebook page. Make sure to check out their Friday videos featuring guest authors and music performers! Miss Jada will continue Tuesday Tales featuring classic fairy tales, also on Facebook.

There will be contests and programs that will run from July 6 – August 7. You will receive a packet with all of the instructions and contest sheets. (Prizes awarded!) We are excited to offer a Virtual Book Discussion on “Politically Correct Bedtime Stories” by James Finn Garner on Thursday evening, July 16, 6:30 p.m. When you register you will be supplied with a PDF copy of the book to read and easy instructions for meeting online to discuss. We have a planned craft kit to take home, a virtual Movie and Discussion in July, and much more. Registered dietitian Kelly Pearson, RD, CDN, will offer an online cooking segment in August! All information will be provided in a packet for pick-up.
Library hours update: We are hoping to open our doors by July 13. All staff will be taking every precaution according to NYS and Health guidelines by wearing masks, using protective gloves when necessary, and having hand sanitizer stations at entrances. All patrons coming into the building will be required to wear masks. If you forget, we will have one for you. Some services may still be limited and computer use will need an appointment. Curbside services will be available for those who may still need it.
