On this week’s trip through the Village I noticed many Fall decorations of corn stalks, scare crows, pumpkins and Mums - thanks to the Parks and Recreation Department. Also noticed several new businesses, a unique display of a trike with a little red wagon at 23 Main Street, courtesy of the artistry of Larry and Jean Winum.
Then I discovered the Broad Leaf Book Store located on 49 Main Street. A very unique book store which I will report on in next week’s column. Continuing on to the Josephine-Louise Library I discovered the library’s display for “International Day of Peace” which exhibited “Pinwheels For Peace”crafted by young library patrons. Kits were handed out to children to create their own display. Needless to say,I returned home having happily shared many special events!
Thank you one and all who were involved!

More than 100 years ago a good neighbor organization, the Walden Sunshine Society was formed by a Walden Woman, Mary Knapp Hill. Many services were rendered to anyone in need.
Over the years this organization has aided the sick and the needy. Members have visited shut-ins and nursing home residents (before Covid-19) often carrying a small gift of cheer. Perhaps the most valued contribution to the community is their large inventory of medical equipment. Walkers, wheelchairs, rollators, shower benches, commodes, crutches, canes are loaned, for a three month period, free of charge to those in need. The organization renders this service to residents of Maybrook, Montgomery, Pine Bush, Walden and Wallkill. Our membership dues and private donations keep our medical equipment in good repair or is used to buy new when necessary.

The organization has continued its services through the Pandemic. For information call Anita at 778-7772, Sue-778-3532, Becky-527-1221 or Ginny at 778-7236.
