Ownership of the problem

At one point in President Trump’s tweets about the recent mass murders, he took issue with President Obama’s thinly veiled criticism of his rhetoric.

Mr. Trump said there were lots of mass murders during the Obama presidency, but President G. B. Bush didn’t criticize Mr. Obama. I believe President Bush realized that mass murders during the Obama Administration were in large part the responsibility of the Republican Party that let the assault weapon ban expire.

President Obama couldn’t fix the assault weapon problem because of Republican resistance. Mr. Obama never had a filibuster proof majority in the Senate.

In the 2010 midterm election Obama lost the House and he lost the Senate in the 2014 midterm election, so Republicans had ownership of the assault weapon mass murders during the Obama years in the White House. New York State became safer after one of the mass murders during the Obama presidency, because of the Safe Act, and the nation would be safer if that act was made federal law.

The shooters at the Garlic Festival, El Paso and Dayton all had legally purchased assault weapons that were bought recently.
