On Tuesday, Oct. 13, the Pine Bush Board of Education approved a leave of absence for Superintendent of Schools Tim Mains, commencing Oct. 14. Board member Ross Tompkins confirmed that Mains’ leave of absence is not related to COVID-19.

Former Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Donna Geidel has returned to the district to serve as acting superintendent. She was a member of the district for more than 30 years before retiring this summer.

“I got a text from Tim, it was sent to the school board members that he was finally at home and he’s trying to get acclimated to this new medicine and he felt comfortable having Donna Geidel there as acting superintendent and he seemed like he was in good spirits,” Thompkins said.

On Oct. 25, the District announced on its website that an individual at Circleville Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19. The district has completed the contact tracing process and students and staff that had direct contact have been directed to quarantine for 14 days. Only the students who were contacted will transition to virtual learning. All other students will remain on their current instructional plan.

On Monday, Oct. 5 the District was notified that two staff members at Pine Bush Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19. That Friday, the District was informed that an employee at Pine Bush High School had also tested positive.
