Pine Bush’s Colin Lang is the top diver in the state and in Section 9 with six dives. Last week in Cornwall, Lang won an 11-dive competition in division one during the OCIAA championships with 504.95 points.

“I just want to do really good,” said Lang, prior to the meet.

Pine Bush tied for fourth with 210 points at the meet. Aidan Kane was third in the 100-butterfly and fourth in the 200-freestyle. And the Bushmen were third in the 200-medley relay.

Now Pine Bush will get ready for the Section 9 championships at Valley Central Feb. 14-16, and Lang, who has already qualified for the state meet after going last year, just wants to practice and do well at his final sectional meet.

“Just go through the motions and get ready for states,” said Lang.

Valley Central was sixth at the OCIAA meet with 185.5 points, and Dan Harrington was fourth in diving in Cornwall after coming in as the fourth-ranked six-dive competitor in the section.

And last week in Cornwall was something new for Harrington after he missed other 11-dive competitions this season.

“This is really our first run of it for the year,” said Scott Warner, Valley Central’s coach, of Harrington’s finish last week.

Valley Central was sixth at the OCIAA meet with 185.5 points. Sean Zupko was second in the 500-freestyle and third in the 100-backstroke. Nick Suchy was fourth in the 50-freestyle, and the Vikings were sixth in the 200-medley relay.

The Vikings are a team without a senior, and Warner said the OCIAA meet gives him a chance to strategize, regarding the placement of swimmers in certain events, for the upcoming sectional meet at Valley Central’s natatorium next week.

‘That’s what we are using it for,” he said.
