Pine Bush shuts out Minisink, 3-0

On Saturday September 21, Pine Bush defeated Minisink Valley by a score of 3 – 0.

Pine Bush got off to a quick start, scoring all three of their goals early on. Sergio Gonzalez scored the first goal of the afternoon.

“Sergio had a great shot from outside the 18, it went in the back of the net and we felt like we found out footing,” said Coach Marc Gittleman. “We relaxed a bit and everybody fell into their place on the field.”

“His shot just woke us up and got us up on that horse to get going and really convinced us that we could do this,” said goalkeeper Jack Bisaillon.

The second goal came from a penalty kick, shot by Michael Dempsey. The third was tacked on by Lorenzo Nunez.

“We had a good game. We had good possessions with the ball and I had a good shot,” said Gonzalez.

Late in the second half, Minisink seemed to find their footing, and were getting some shots off. “They had a better game the second half, but we had a better game the first half,” said Gonzalez.

“At that point, a zero instead of a one is always a little extra motivation,” said Gittleman, on Bisaillon’s ability to preserve the shutout for Pine Bush. Gonzalez added, “He’s a great keeper, he helped us a lot. They had pretty good shots.”
Bisaillon totaled 11 saves in the game while not allowing a goal. “Just trying to keep the shutout. They had great shots and it was challenging at times, but I persevered,” said Bisaillon.

“Sergio did real well today. We’ve been trying to get him to rip the ball into the back of the net. Magically in the first fifteen minutes he does it and it pays off,” said Gittleman. “We do have to work on linking out offense to our mid-field to our defense, both forwards and backwards.”

With the win, Pine Bush improved to 4-2. After the loss, Minisink Valley drops to 5-3.

Pine Bush will hit the road this week, going to Middletown on Monday for a 4 p.m game and Kingston on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
