Town of Montgomery Police Investigator Steve Ragni has been named officer in charge while the town looks to hire a permanent chief of police. Ragni’s temporary position began on Aug. 1.
The need for a new chief of police came when Arnold “Butch” Amthor retired and subsequently became the City of Newburgh chief of police. As of Friday, the Town of Montgomery was still canvassing candidates for the chief of police position.
More information regarding Ragni’s new position will be discussed at the Montgomery Town Board meeting on Thursday, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Montgomery Town Hall, 110 Bracken Road and will be live-streamed on the town’s Facebook page.
