Repair Cafe is coming to Pine Bush

Posted

Repair Cafe is coming to Pine Bush in February, with a date to be announced shortly.

The Repair Café idea was born in Amsterdam in 2009 and was brought to New Paltz by volunteer organizer John Wackman in 2013. since then, the program has spread to other Hudson Valley communities, including Gardiner, Newburgh, Beacon and Montgomery. The mission, according to the organization’s website, is:
To transform our throw-away economy, one beloved item at a time
To reduce how much stuff goes into the waste stream
To preserve traditional repair know-how & skills, and pass them on

To show the people who have this knowledge that they are valued
To feed our curiosity about “the way things work”, provide scientific diversion & have fun!
To foster community, sustainability, and resilience

Repair Cafe’ Pine Bush is a community initiative that promotes repair as an alternative to throwing broken things away. Residents can bring their damaged items to fix them on the spot for FREE with the help of voluntary repairers.

Repair Cafe’ Pine Bush is looking for residents with different skills who can act as repair experts during the Repair Cafe’ meetings. We are especially seeking people who are skilled with: clothing/textiles, appliances, furniture/wooden objects, bicycles/toys, jewelry, electronics/computers and who enjoy sharing their knowledge with their neighbors.

In addition, organizers are also looking for people to fulfill various host/hostess roles such as provide coffee and tea, welcome visitors, oversee the sign in station and serve as a contact point for both visitors and repairers in the Repair Cafe’. They will have a baked goods table if you like to bake and want to contribute some tasty treats for the volunteers and participants.

If you want to sign up as a volunteer, send an email to: RepairCafePB@gmail.com.
