Rotary to honor Chief Jeffry Holmes

In support of our local Police Department and to show respect and gratitude for the protection we receive from these officers, the Walden Community Council has available for a $5 donation “Support Your Local Police department” decals. When placed on a car window, these decals are designed to be durable for five years.

The Town of Montgomery Senior Independence Project will hold their Free Senior Resource Day program today, October 16, 2 - 4 p.m. at Montgomery Town Hall, 110 Bracken Road.
Presentations include: “Fire Safety for Seniors” by Pete Wolven CYA Fire, Inc.; “How to Protect Yourself” by Tracy Wager. Adult Protective Services; “New Early Voting Rules” by Orange county Election Commissioners Louise Vandermark and David C. Green. Catherine Lewis from Access Physical Therapy and Wellness, will be on hand to tell about Montgomery Access. Goody bags, refreshments and door prizes too! See you all there!

Please visit the Jacob T. Walden House, 34 North Montgomery Street tonight, October 16, 7:30 p.m. Railroad Historian, Bob Earle is guest speaker.
Everyone is invited to attend and learn about the birth in 1866 of the Wallkill Valley Railroad and how it later consolidated with the N. Y. Central Railroad. This program is not to be missed. For info, call Anita at 778-7772.

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden will hold an indoor yard sale on Thursday, October 17, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Come out and find many special treasures. All proceeds benefit the care of the animals at the shelter.

Community Members of Walden are conducting a Gas Card Drive for the family of Tawanna Pizzaro.
Tawanna suffered a severe stroke in August and is currently in a long term acute care facility in Rockland County. The committee’s aim is to provide gas money to offset the family’s ongoing medical costs and show community support during this difficult time. The family visits Tawanna every day.
To donate, drop off gas cards by October 18 to Orange County Rural Development Advisory Corp., 3 North Street, Walden or call 845-820-3870 for pick up or information.

Be reminded Walden’s Village Wide Yard Sale is scheduled for Saturday, October 19. You will find many attic treasures. Bulk pick up can go curbside on Sunday. October 20.

Dawn’s Dream Team’s Paint and Sip Party at Walden VFW, 4-8 Oak Street, is also on Saturday October 19, 1 – 4 p.m. $30 Per Person. Proceeds are donated to Relay for Life Cancer fund.

Walden will hold its 1st Annual Trunk or Treat Event at Bradley Park, 48 Albany Avenue on Saturday, October 19, 5:30 p.m. Register your car to get a spot!

The Walden Community Council will hold a “Candidates’ Night” on Monday, October 21, 6:30 p.m. at the Maybrook Senior Center, Route 208, 2 Senior Way, Maybrook for all candidates running in the Town of Montgomery election.
All Town of Montgomery residents are encouraged to attend. This forum is being presented to allow each candidate the opportunity to tell the community about themselves, discuss election platforms and answer questions regarding Town issues. It is non-partisan in process and does not endorse any individual candidate.

Walden Sunshine Society members are looking to their annual visit to the Montgomery Nursing Home on October 23 at 1:30 p.m. In addition to homemade treats, and great guitar music by Kevin Cronin, friendship and good cheer will be provided.

Reservations must be made by October 25 for the Walden Rotary Club Dinner recognizing Police Chief Jeffry Holmes for his dedicated service to our community.
A Service-Above Self Dinner will be held at Colden Manor at Spruce Lodge on Friday November 1. Cost $50 per person.
