Senior citizen apartment complex proposed in Walden

Posted

At Monday evening’s Village of Walden Planning Board meeting, Lewis Donnelly presented his application for site plan approval, special exception use and subdivision for construction of a multi-unit senior citizen apartment complex to be located at 120-126 Montgomery Street. The complex, known as Falcon Rest, would be for seniors ages 55 and over.

The complex would include a three-story building. This structure would feature a cultured stone bottom as well as clapboard siding. Each floor would have 23 apartments. 68 of the 69 apartments would be rented out to senior citizens with one apartment used as a caretakers unit. The proposed plan also includes a porch for every apartment. 97 parking spaces are planned for the site.

The existing house on the property would be converted to an office, while the existing garage would become a maintenance shed. This project calls for evergreen trees to be planted around the building, providing a gorgeous atmosphere.

A lighting plan has been prepared to show that lights do not shine onto adjoining properties. The applicant feels that the complex would do a great service to the community.

“We all know the lack of housing there is for seniors in our area,” Donnelly said. “Every facility in the county has at least a three month waiting list. Most have a year.”

The public hearing for the structure’s site plan approval, special exception use and subdivision for construction will remain open until the planning board’s next meeting on July 20.

“We will continue to work with the outside agencies: DOT as well as the fire department to get them more information,” said Lawrence Marshall, engineer for the project. “We welcome any additional information from the fire department.”
