Six new Eagle Scouts inducted

On April 6, I had the privilege of attending the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Julian Aviles, Steven Aviles, Thomas Grismer, Jason Lake, Lucca Dobson and Mason Weed. These six young men were granted the highest honor available in the Boy Scouts of America organization – the level of Eagle Scout. The ceremony was held at the Brick Reformed Church in Montgomery.
To achieve their Eagle Scout rank, they had to plan and execute a board certified project for their community. They also had to hold a six-month leadership position within Troop 31.

Jeffry Holmes, former Scout and Walden’s Police Chief addressed the young men, guiding them through their journey through the ranks. They began as Tenderfoot Scouts, learning basic skills, followed by Second and First Class ranks. Their demands became more difficult. By their Life Scout ranking, they took leadership positions within the troop, as they prepared to climb the final summit of their journey. They have all truly developed into alert and capable citizens!

The event included a candle lighting ceremony where a series of different colored candles were ignited to represent the values and teachings the boys have upheld. A gold candle represented the Scout’s Honor, a blue and red candle stood for Duty to God and Country and Duty to Self. Twelve small white candles represented the journey from boy to manhood.
