In May, Ulster County, along with all counties across the state, celebrated two extraordinary Ulster County seniors who were recognized for their caring and tireless contributions to enhance the lives of seniors within their community. I was fortunate to be a recipient of one of these awards in 2018 and I am happy to announce the winners for 2019.

Our 2019 Senior of the Year is Sheldon Quimby of Port Ewen and the late Anita Williams Peck of Kingston has been chosen (posthumously) for the county’s Most Outstanding Contribution by a Senior award. Visit the website and click on the May 2019 Newsletter for more information.

Over the last few years, Walker Valley’s seniors have made their mark being winners of previous awards going to the late John Scott, Greg Greer and myself. Festivities include a trip to Albany for a tour of the State Building, lunch with all other winners from across the entire state in a place called ‘The Egg” and commendations/pictures with local politicians and members of the Office for the Aging in Albany. You are also invited and recognized at the annual senior’s picnic in Kingston where you get to meet past winners and possibly a future winner! So, if you know of a senior who lives in Walker Valley/Ulster Co. and volunteers in Ulster Co. keep that info close by.

The applications for nominees come out right after the New Year and I will remind everyone to get their selection into the office for review.
