SUNY Orange presents Jazz on the Weekend

In keeping with the long tradition of great jazz presentations at Orange County Community College SUNY Orange— Jazz on the Weekend has two very different types of concerts scheduled.

To start off the weekend, come on Friday, September 20, for the 8 p.m. performance of the Marko Marcinko Latin Jazz Quintet. This well-seasoned ensemble of highly individually successful jazzmen -- Tom Hamilton playing sax & flute, Bill Washer on guitar, Paul Rostock on bass, Bob Velez on congas, and Marko Marcinko on drums & percussion – will bring high-energy traditional Latin jazz to the stage of the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall! Latin Jazz is an alive musical style and the Quintet adds fire to its presentation with upbeat Brazilian jazz flavors.

The following evening, Saturday, September 21, at 7:30 p.m., on the stage of the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall, the Spike Wilner Trio will present jazz with an interesting combination of superior musicians Pasquale Grasso on guitar, Paul Gill on bass and Spike Wilner playing piano. Wilner is the owner of Smalls Jazz Club and Mezzrow jazz venue and listening lounge, both in Greenwich Village.

As a pianist and a leader of jazz ensembles, Wilner is known for his improvisational flexibility and high standard of music with an absolute passion for jazz. Combining a classical guitar technique with the language of Art Tatum and Charlie Parker, Pasquale Grasso has created his own original approach to jazz guitar. Paul Gill is recognized for his buoyant, swinging bass lines and virtuosic arco solos.

Admission to each concert is just ten dollars and all students are admitted free. The box office opens at 6:15 p.m. the evening of each concert. Online purchase with a $2.50 service charge for each ticket is available at www.sunyorange.edu/arts_comm/ticketing.shtml.

Orange Hall is located at the corner of Wawayanda and Grandview Avenues, (GPS: 24 Grandview Avenue), Middletown, NY.
